Big Creek Greenway and Mountain Bike Trails are great for beginners and close-by for anyone who lives in the North Fulton County area. The Greenway itself offers a great situation for cyclists and hikers alike with it's 6.15 mile concrete trail which stretches between Webb Bridge Road and Mansell Road. Detailed information can be found at City of Alpharetta, Big Creek Link On the Southern end of the greenway is the Big Creek Mountain Bike Trail which offers beginner, intermediate and advanced features. Our first ride at Big Creek Park turned out to be a lot of fun and a good mountain bike learning experience. The conditions were perfect and we were early enough to beat the crowds. Turned out that the Roswell Alpharetta Mountain Bike Organization (RAMBO) had an event that morning and were getting set up as we were heading down the trail.
ReplyDeleteIt was a great ride, the green and blue trails were fun,the Pink (Most Difficult) separated the rookies (me) from the rest.
My rookie mistakes:
1) Tire pressure - Make sure you check before you ride and investing in a good pump and gauge is a must.
2) Seat height - Make sure your seat height is such that you have full leg extension on the downward stroke. This allows for maximum efficiency when peddling.
3) Water - Make sure you're set with a water system and one that fits securely to your body or bike.
4) Padded shorts/pants - There's all kinds of rubbing and chaffing that you need to either prevent or endure...the choice is yours.
5) Gears - Understanding the correct gear for the appropriate condition is crucial. Low gear for the more difficult hills and adjusting-up for the down-hill runs.
